Men and women considering elective procedures such as the facelift will often want a series of questions answered to help them determine if a procedure is appropriate for their needs. Dr. Derek Steinbacher is a plastic and aesthetic surgeon who provides both surgical and non-surgical solutions to assist patients in turning back the hands of time. If you are considering your options for facial enhancement with one of the best facelift surgeons in the area, we invite you to continue reading our frequently asked questions below.
There is no specific age that is considered “too late” for a facelift. Candidates for this procedure are usually in their 40s to 70s or older, but age is not the only factor determining candidacy. Before undergoing any surgical procedure, it’s important to have realistic expectations and be in good overall health.
A facelift surgery primarily focuses on improving the appearance of the central and lower portions of the face, including the jawline, neck, and cheeks. With deep plane techniques, the results can be dramatic and more long lasting. Coupled with other complimentary procedures facial rejuvenation will improve the entire face, jawline, neck, lips, eyelids, brows, and skin texture. This includes definite improvement to other areas on the upper portion of the face, such as the forehead and around the eyes.

While a facelift can provide long-lasting results, nothing in surgery is ever 100% permanent. Deep plane face and necklift however can provide very long lasting results. The aging process continues after the procedure, but the clock is turned back and the effects of the facelift can be maintained with proper skin care and healthy lifestyle choices.
The recovery time for a facelift varies between patients, but most patients can expect to take about two weeks off from work and other regular activities. Swelling and bruising may occur during this time, but they should subside within a few weeks. It’s critical that you closely follow post-operative care instructions provided by your plastic surgeon to facilitate and help in the healing process.
Dr. Derek Steinbacher finds that for complete facial rejuvenation additional complimentary procedures are required to address all areas and concerns during a single procedure. It is more common than not to have several of these procedures performed during the facelift, including fat grafting, blepharoplasties, PRP injections, browlift, upper lip lifts, facial implants, and laser treatments. It’s best to discuss all your desired outcomes with your surgeon during the initial consultation.
For patients who might not feel ready for surgery or prefer a non-invasive option, there are several non-surgical alternatives available. These include services such as injectables, like Botox, and quality dermal fillers, which help improve fine lines and wrinkles in targeted areas of the face. Sculptra or other fillers can volumize the deficient portions of the face to improve descent and deep lines. More minimally invasive procedures, like fat grafting, PRP, and laser along can provide very good results with less downtime. Â
