Teardrop or “gummy bear” implants are becoming an increasingly popular choice among women seeking breast augmentation surgery with their many benefits. Dr. Derek Steinbacher is a plastic surgeon in the Connecticut / New York, area who is pleased to offer this alternative to other silicone or saline implants used for breast augmentation procedures. If you are seeking natural-looking breast implants, you may be a good candidate for this particular type.
Teardrop or “gummy bear” implants are a unique type of breast implant made from highly cohesive silicone. This means that the implant is firmer than other types of implants, which makes them less likely to shift around or move position after they have been placed in the body. Because of their unique shape, teardrop implants can mimic the appearance and feel of natural breasts much more closely than traditional round implants.
Teardrop or gummy bear implants are an excellent choice for women who want subtle yet noticeable increases in their breast size. Because this type of implant has a lower likelihood of shifting or moving after placement, it can be a good choice for women who have had breast implant surgery in the past. Teardrop implants are also a good option for our patients who want to achieve more natural-looking results with their breast augmentation procedure.
Breast augmentation procedures performed with teardrop or gummy bear implants are relatively straightforward. First, patients are given general anesthesia to ensure their comfort throughout the surgery. The incisions used for this procedure are typically in the under breast area, around the lower part of the nipple, or through the navel area. Once these incisions have been made, Dr. Derek Steinbacher will carefully place your gummy bear implants into position and close your incision with fine dissolvable sutures. A bandaid is applied and you are able to return home soon thereafter.
Healing from teardrop implant surgery typically takes two weeks, depending on the type of incision. During this time, try to avoid overly strenuous activities and refrain from lifting heavy objects. It is also recommended that you wear a sports bra during that time to help support and healing. Most of our patients experience minimal or imperceptible scarring and are able to return to work and other normal daily activities within a few days following their procedure.
If you are considering this type of implant and are interested in learning more about your options, speak with Dr. Derek Steinbacher, your plastic surgeon, to discuss whether teardrop or gummy bear implants may be right for you. With their enhanced durability and ability to deliver beautiful, long-lasting results, these implants can help you achieve the look you desire with greater ease and confidence!
